Story

Before Castlevania

Trevor was apparently living outside of any town or village before the pope's men found him. Before Dracula's Curse, the Belmonts showed great power that caused people to fear them and thus, they were exiled and not allowed to live among people. Due to this, the Belmonts had almost disappeared.

Events of Dracula's Curse

Dracula, angered at humanity, sent his legions of darkness against the people of Transylvania. The church sent many armies after them, but none returned.
‎In time, they had to rely on more powerful warriors, such as Sypha Belnades, who was a vampire hunter. Sypha was sent to fight Dracula's legions as well, but he did not return, either. The situation was worsening and even more lives were being lost. Because of this, the pope thought of the only person who can save them: a member of the Belmont Clan.

The pope searched far and wide and there was no sign of a Belmont anywhere, but he continued his search, as this was the only way to stop Dracula. Eventually, he managed to find a youth that went by Trevor Belmont, and asked for his help. Trevor accepted and armed himself for battle. He went against Dracula's legions and defeated them single-handedly. He reached the Clocktower and climbed to the top. There, he found a ghoulish man who assaulted him. After defeating the monster, it slowly morphed into a human being and regained consciousness. The human introduced himself as Grant Danasty, and told Trevor how his village was destroyed by Dracula's legions. His ghoulish form was also a product of Dracula's magic. Grant asked to join Trevor and he accepted. Together, they escaped from the Clocktower and into the forest.

After trudging through the forest, the two fought a cyclops in a clearing that had several statues in it. Defeating the cyclops made one of the statues come to life. The person introduced himself as Sypha Belnades, a vampire hunter, and thanked Trevor for freeing him. He then asked to join the two in their quest to slay Dracula. Trevor accepted, and they continued toward Dracula's Castle.

The three went through many other obstacles and formidable enemies until they reached a tomb. Inside it, an undead man resided. He introduced himself as Alucard and said that he would like to join the group in their quest to slay the Vampire Lord.

With more might added to the already powerful group, the four pushed through Dracula's evil hordes until they reached Dracula himself. With much effort, the Vampire Lord was finally slain and peace brought back to Transylvania. Because of Trevor's actions, the Belmonts gained legendary status, and were loved and allowed to live among the people once more. Sypha also took off her hood, revealing herself as a woman. After sometime, Trevor asked for Sypha's hand in marriage, and Sypha accepted; Grant and Alucard went off to take care of their own duties.

Interlude

Three years later, the Transylvania countryside, along with the entire European continent, were still enshrouded in misery and torment. After Dracula's defeat at the hands of Trevor, Dracula uttered a curse with his final breath that left the land to rot while its inhabitants pillaged and scourged it without remorse. Trevor, who was still carrying out his duty as a vampire hunter, kept a close eye on the area to assure that the remnants of Dracula's legions didn't do any harm. After receiving the word of increased activity from followers of his former mortal enemy, he rushed to the province of Valachia.

Events of Judgment

Note: The following events are from Castlevania Judgment and its canonical merits are uncertain.

While on his way, he was suddenly hit with a vision of an unknown man named Aeon who welcomed him to a rift in time.
Trevor demanded the man explain himself and he was told that this is the place where he could have that which he most desired. The vampire hunter became intrigued after he heard that he had to pass several trials before achieving this goal. His first test was to defeat the time traveler in which he succeeded.

Trevor faced many opponents he never heard of, but he was surprised to meet a youth who seemed to recognize him and wielded a perfect copy of his whip. The man introduced himself as Simon Belmont and declared he had always dreamed of challenging him. The two battled, but Simon was no match for Trevor, who told his descendant that we would be ready if he trained for a little while longer.

Eventually, Trevor faced Alucard and he was surprised how great the power of Dracula's son truly was. In their last skirmish, Alucard spared Trevor his full strength, but he asked not to hold back this time. Trevor won, but brushed this off as an empty victory because it was Dracula who he was really after. Much to his surprise, his next opponent was a seemingly younger looking Sypha who hailed from a different moment in time. Sypha didn't seem to recognize Trevor and he challenged her to duel, being curious what a hunter of the church could do and eventually resulted in another victory. Aeon gained another soul key and came a step closer to his goal while Trevor returned to his own time period to continue his quest.

Events of Curse of Darkness

Soon, his investigation led him to a long deserted monastery where he ran into a man whom Trevor asked if he was a Devil Forgemaster. The man confirmed he was and Trevor, believing the Devil Forgemaster to responsible for the recent decadence of Europe, declared that to be the hour of his death and battled him. The vampire hunter was surprised that the Devil Forgemaster's power didn't seem to rival Death's according to some stories. Trevor realised that this man was most likely the servant that had betrayed Dracula during the war three years ago, although he was presumed death. After introducing himself to the man, he, in turn, introduced himself as Hector, and the two parted ways afterward.

Trevor receiving his near-mortal wound from Isaac

Trevor traveled ahead and would find Isaac, who was the Devil Forgemaster he was truly after. They engaged in battle and Isaac proved to be a dangerous foe. He talked down to Trevor and said his triumph over his master was nothing more a mere twist of fortune. Dracula's servant suddenly noticed Hector arriving and left without hesitation after lightly cutting Trevor with his spear, saying that he had gotten what he needed and declared that he would slay both Trevor and Hector eventually. Trevor, determined to vanquish him, initiated pursuit. Hector caught up with him in an Abandoned Castle while bringing news of a hidden chamber hidden below it's grounds and that Isaac was there now.

Trevor passed that off as impossible because the seal placed on the entrance could only be opened with the blood of his clan. Then, he suddenly realised that the reason why Isaac fought him was to tap some blood from him in order to enter the hidden chamber. The vampire hunter had no choice but to test how much power Hector gained and challenged him to a dual. During the battle, Hector showed that his powers had grown, and he was worthy to advance to the place Isaac fled to. Trevor broke the seal and let Hector travel ahead of him, but before he left he told the Devil Forgemaster to show no mercy.

After Hector arrived in the very center of the Infinite Corridor, Trevor suddenly sensed an enormous power, and much to his shock, realised that it was coming from the newly risen castle of Dracula. As he stood in confusion, he was cowardly stabbed in the back by Isaac, who told that it was Hector's doing that the castle had arisen again. He explained that Hector accidentally undid the seal on the castle by producing demonic magic while battling the guard who protected it. After their conversation, Isaac pulled back his spear and left Trevor to die a slow death.

This was not the end for Trevor, as he was saved by Julia Laforeze, a witch who aided Hector many times during his travels. But, because of his severe injury, he was unable to participate further. After his recovery, he heard, much to his relief, that Hector was able to stop Isaac along with a recently revived Dracula along with his castle. Although Trevor didn't play the part of the hero that time, his sacrifice to the cause would not be forgotten by the people.

Trevor returned to his household with a feeling of dissatisfaction lingering in mind, not knowing that he would eventually have another chance of proving himself worthy and once again gaining the respect he deserved.

Trivia

  • In Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, he is mentioned several times in the story from the intro, Alucard, and even his own descendant, Richter. Also a doppelganger takes the shape of Trevor Belmont, as well as Grant and Sypha and act like bosses.
  • Castlevania Legends, which has since been retconned from the official timeline, hinted strongly that Trevor was Alucard's son; even if this is no longer canonical.
  • In the Captain N: The Game Master cartoon, during the episode Return To Castlevania, Trevor Belmont is the great-grandfather to Simon Belmont. As with most Captain N series, this is not consistent with the original series, as Trevor Belmont existed over 200 years before Simon, which would make him more like the great great great grandfather. However, the "great-grandfather" information likely came from the North American instruction manual.
  • In Akumajo Densetsu: Shinsei Vampire Hunter, Sid Belmont, the protagonist is mentioned to be a descendant of Trevor.
