Soleiyu Belmont is a character in Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge. He is the second to last boss, followed directly by Count Dracula.

Story

The astray son speaks to his father.

Soleiyu is the son of Christopher Belmont, the hero who defeated Dracula in 1576. In 1591, Soleiyu was celebrating his passage to manhood, and was finally taking on the title of Vampire Hunter. The day after his celebration, he fell under a spell conjured by Count Dracula, which turned him into the Soleiyu Demon, and put him under the Count's control. Though Dracula was defeated by Christopher, he narrowly escaped destruction by turning into mist. Because he was so weak after the battle, Dracula could not assume his regular form, so he schemed to use Soleiyu's services to become whole, as well as destroy his old foe, Christopher Belmont.

Christopher eventually found Soleiyu in Dracula's Castle and was forced to battle his own son. The older, more experienced Belmont prevailed, and went forward and killed the Dark Lord Dracula. Soleiyu and Christopher escaped the castle and watched it fragment to the ground in the distance.

Trivia

  • Soleiyu is actually a mistranslation of Soleil, which is the French word for Sun. This error was rectified in Konami GB Collection Vol. 4, which features a re-translated version of Belmont's Revenge. Despite that, Soleiyu has become the official name of the character.
  • Though never mentioned by name, it is likely that Soleiyu Belmont is the unborn baby in Illyana Belmont's womb at the conclusion of Castlevania: The Belmont Legacy comic book mini-series.
  • The music theme that plays in Soleiyu's stage, Passpied, is a Gameboy rendition of a segment from Claude Debussy's Passepied, and Soleiyu's battle theme is a rendition of Johann Sebastian Bach's Chromatische Fantasie and Fugue.
