Story
Before Castlevania
350 years after his defeat, Magnus encountered a vampire named Lyudmil, a figure from Alucard's past who despised humans because of what they did to Lisa, and had chosen to become a vampire as a result. Magnus planned to use him as a pawn in his plan and hypnotized him. The first part of his plan was ordering Lyudmil to attack young maidens in a village near where Alucard was living in order to draw the attention of the dhampir.
Events of Nocturne of Reminiscence
In the woods around the village, Magnus encountered Maria Renard, who he knew was close to Alucard. He provoked her, saying that Alucard had given in to his vampiric urges and was the one committing the murders. Maria attacked Magnus in an act of rage and said she didn't believe him, although the things he was saying troubled her. With Maria in disbelief, he continued to say that somewhere in her heart, she was afraid of Alucard, and then showed her what Maria believed to be a vision of Alucard drinking the blood of a helpless victim. Despite that, Maria intended to fight Magnus, but he told her that he only came to help her discover the truth. He then left, saying they would meet again.
As Magnus suspected, he encountered Alucard, who had set out to investigate recent happenings. Alucard demanded that Magnus explain why he told Maria about his past. Magnus replied by saying that he only showed her the truth. The Incubus told Alucard that he wanted to open his eyes and then hypnotized the dhampir. Magnus continued to exasperate Alucard, telling him to drink the blood of Lyudmil (who Alucard still remembered as an old friend). After a hard struggle, Alucard broke free from the hypnosis and Magnus commented that his experience had to be very nostalgic, since he used to drink blood regularly. The Incubus then left, telling Alucard to look forward to remembering his dark past.
Magnus stumbled upon two vampire hunters who went by the names of Ciryl and Alexis. They were investigating the recent murders. He attacked them and managed to abduct Alexis while the other hunter escaped.
Alexis was able to escape from the clutches of Magnus. The incubus and the hypnotized Lyudmil followed Alexis and eventually encountered Alucard again, who was accompanied by Ciryl and Richter Belmont. Lyudmil was the first to make his entrance and revealed that he had been the one attacking the townsfolk. Richter and Alucard engaged Lyudmil and Magnus in battle, while Ciryl went over to the injured Alexis to make sure Alexis wouldn't succumb to his wounds. Magnus was planning on luring Alucard to his father's side again by playing on his emotions. Magnus had Alucard come in contact with Lyudmil, a former friend who also knew his mother, hoping that the dhampir would give in to his darker half.
Magnus hypnotized Alucard and once again persuaded him to drink the blood of an illusion of Lyudmil. While he continued torturing Alucard, Maria arrived and Magnus attacked her. While almost being struck by Magnus' claws, Maria sent off a dazzling blast of light that brought Lyudmil out of hypnosis. The vampire came to his senses and realised he was manipulated by Magnus and turned against him, summoning a flock of bats. Magnus was able to mortally wound Lyudmil and left him on the ground to die.
At the last moment, Alexis came rushing to the scene of battle and shouted at Richter to smash Magnus' claws, because those were the source of his powers. Richter did so, and Magnus was defeated once again. While dying, he amusingly commented that Alucard's powers were exactly the same as Lord Dracula's. He then maniacally laughed while burning away.
