Story

Events of Harmony of Dissonance

Lydie was close friends with vampire hunters Juste Belmont and Maxim Kischine. She was an invaluable presence to the two young men who endured strict physical training. Maxim left on a training expedition that took him away from home. Two years later, Lydie was blindfolded and kidnapped.

She was taken to a mysterious castle in the mist where she found Maxim, who was trying to protect her from her abductor. Maxim sealed Lydie in the Lord's Chamber of the castle where no monsters could reach her, due to a magic barrier Maxim placed on the entry to the area. Afterward, Lydie lost contact with Maxim, who went off to a place she did not know.

Lydie waited in the throne room for a savior, unaware as to exactly what was going on or why she was kidnapped. Eventually, Juste Belmont came to her rescue. She told Juste that Maxim hid her there for her protection and asked him if he knew how Maxim was doing. Juste said that he thought Maxim was waiting outside, and they both agreed to leave the castle quickly.

Before Lydie could leave with Juste, Dracula's servant, Death, appeared in the room and spirited her away. Death brought Lydie to Maxim, and to Lydie's surprise, Maxim bit her neck and sucked her blood, after which, Lydie fell unconscious. In time, the bite would kill her if Maxim was not vanquished.

In truth, Maxim was the one who abducted Lydie, but she was not aware it was him. Maxim had a dual personality that developed because he found the bodily remains of Count Dracula on his two year expedition. Maxim's possession of them caused an evil spirit to dwell within him, which would take over his body for a period of time. The evil spirit wished to be rid of Maxim's regular side for good, and sucking the blood of someone dear to him would give him the power to overcome his regular self. Lydie was used as a means for Maxim's evil side to gain full control of Maxim's body. Maxim's regular self had been trying to protect Lydie from his evil self.

Juste appeared within the chamber where Maxim and Lydie were, and by using the remains of Count Dracula, he expelled the evil spirit from Maxim, which materialized as a phantom of Count Dracula. Juste destroyed the phantom, which caused the bite marks on Lydie's neck to disappear, thus saving her life and destroying the castle.

Juste, Lydie, and Maxim rested in a meadow. Lydie finally woke up and wasn't sure if she dreamed Maxim was biting her neck or if it had really happened. Juste and Maxim got in a quarrel over the matter, and Lydie calmed them both down. She was happy that after two years, all three friends were together once again.

Trivia

  • Though a romantic relationship between Lydie and either Juste or Maxim is never explicitly mentioned in the game or manual, if the furniture collecting side-quest in Harmony of Dissonance is completed, Lydie will lean closely against Juste at the final dialogue scene if the other prerequisites for getting the best ending are met.
