Story
Events of Aria of Sorrow
Hammer came to investigate the Hakuba Shrine on orders from his superiors, but during his investigation he was transported to Dracula's Castle, which had been sealed away in a solar eclipse after the events of the Demon Castle Wars. While wandering around the castle's study, he encountered a young man and asked what a child like him was doing in such a dangerous place. The youth found Hammer to be very rude and Hammer apologised. He introduced himself and the young man in turn revealed that his name was Soma Cruz. Hammer explained why he was in the castle and told him that he had decided to bail on his mission. He set up a shop instead after noticing that there were other people gathered at the Shrine who might be potential customers. Hammer explained that there were weapons all over the place and no monsters at the front gate, which made it an excellent spot to open a business.
During Soma's mission, Hammer sold him weapons and items, which greatly contributed to Soma's cause. Though he didn't support in any combat, Hammer was able to contact Soma through his mind with the magic of Yoko Belnades. Soma was about to give in to his dark side, but Hammer encouraged him not to. The youth was able to overcome his ordeal and they were all transported out of the castle. Hammer then told Soma his true calling and that he had decided to quit the army and open up a shop in the near future. He wanted Soma to drop by sometime because a good deal was assured.
Events of Dawn of Sorrow
Over the course of the next year, Hammer became an actual licensed merchant and information broker through his shady business connections. Because of that, he was able to direct Soma to a cult named With Light, whose members longed for the second coming of a Dark Lord. The two met up at the entrance of the Lost Village, but Soma was surprised and upset to see him there. Hammer asked what happened to Yoko Belnades, who he referred to as the "little lady", but the youth had told no one about his mission. Hammer was disappointed to hear that but decided to make the best of it and set up a new business. Hammer scoped around the area and settled in one of the many abandoned houses.
Hammer was happy to see Soma escorting Yoko to one of the nearby houses and when Soma visited his shop, he often asked about Yoko's feelings, much to the youth's annoyance. Eventually, Soma was able to defeat the cult and Hammer greeted him after the young man was transported out of the crumbling castle.
