Vampire Killer Inventory

Weapons

Vampire Killer

The Belmont family's legendary magical whip. It's the default weapon in the game. However, it lacks both range and power. It's best to search for another weapon.

Chain Whip

A beefed-up form of the Vampire Killer, located in some treasure chests, candlesticks, and can be purchased from hidden merchants. It has a much better range and is more versatile than the basic leather whip. In departing from the series norm there is no third upgrade.

Axe

In a change from other titles, the Axe is a basic weapon instead of a sub-weapon. You toss the Axe straight forward instead of at an arc. While very powerful, it has a relatively short range. Remember to catch it when it returns; if not, you will be reduced down to the leather form of the Vampire Killer.

Cross

Also a throwing weapon like the Axe, and a basic weapon instead of a sub-weapon. The Cross is slightly weaker than the Axe, but has a longer range. Good for hitting enemies on the far side of the screen before they see Simon. Yet, Simon is vulnerable to attack until he catches the Cross again.

Knife

The humble knife is usually disregarded in other titles for its weak power. In Vampire Killer, however, it's the strongest weapon in the game! Knives can be thrown in an endless stream and have a long range, meaning you need not worry about recovering your weapons a la the Cross and Axe.

Sub-weapons

Holy Water

Perfect for ensnaring enemies in a holy fire at the cost of five hearts. Slow, large bosses such as Medusa are highly vulnerable to holy water, so be sure to bring a vial to a fight at all times.

Hourglass

Has the ability to freeze time. Monsters are helpless under its effects, so use the few seconds to whip them to pieces before time resumes normally. Even Death himself cannot withstand its effects. Costs five hearts per use.

Power ups and Items

Key

Can be found in various hidden places or just simply lying around. Use these to open treasure chests located around each stage.

Skeleton Key

Your goal in each stage is to collect these. They will open the locked doors leading to new rooms and to each of the bosses' chambers.

Staff

Collect two of these to open any three treasure chests. You cannot carry normal keys with this equipped.

Moneybag

Boost your score by collecting these. It is important to note that your score is for bragging rights only; crossing a certain number will not dispense an extra life.

Rosary

Eliminates all enemies on screen in a blinding flash of light.

Heart

Dropped by enemies or found in candles. Hearts function as fuel for sub-weapons as well as currency for buying items from the hidden merchants.

Large Shield

Completely blocks all projectile attacks. Excellent for taking on Bone Pillars and highly recommended for some boss fights.

Small Shield

Greatly reduces some damage taken.

Red Crystal

Restores a certain portion of Simon's life bar.

Potion

Completely restores Simon's life bar.

Blue Crystal

Find these to briefly turn Simon invincible for a very short time.

Boots of Speed

Simon can walk faster with these equipped.

Wings of Flight

Simon's jumps will be much higher with this item. Helps make jumping over treacherous pits a bit easier as well as leaping over enemy attacks.

Holy Bible

White in appearance, it lowers the price of items sold by merchants.

Fake Bible

Stay away from these reddish-pink books. They will take away the value of hearts, making it harder to collect hearts to power sub-weapons and collect currency.

Illuminating Candlestick

Finding those hidden breakable bricks are made much easier with this item. Shows which bricks can be smashed.

Map

Finding these will make navigating Dracula's Castle less of a hassle. Use the maps to find your bearings.

Treasure Chest

Contains special items to aid you in your vampire hunting. Use the key to open them.
