Jonathan Morris

Appearances:
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (1944)

onathan is the son of the late John Morris, the hero responsible for destroying Count Dracula in 1917, but who mysteriously died afterward. Due to this tragedy, possession of the sacred Vampire Killer whip, the weapon used to vanquish Dracula, was left to Jonathan.

Not being a Belmont of pure blood, Jonathan cannot use the Vampire Killer effectively, whereas his father could. Consequently, Jonathan hates his father for dying before he could teach him how to fight and use the whip to its full potential. He is mortified at being the first to wield the whip, but not have the ability to use it, and casts all the blame to his deceased father.

Despite this deficiency, Jonathan is undefeated in battle, and has developed a brash, cocky attitude that pushes him from one death defying challenge to another, almost to the point of being suicidal.

Since Jonathan cannot make full use of the Vampire Killer, he relies on an abundance of other weapons, including swords, spears, daggers, and various whips. Jonathan may come across as a foolish loud mouth that thinks before he acts, but in truth, he is clever, resourceful, and confident. In the face of great danger, his catch phrase is "No problem."

Because Jonathan feels inadequate, he is especially determined to make a name for himself. Thus, he takes on the ultimate challenge – Dracula's Castle. The Castle inexplicably rises in 1944, and Jonathan is dispatched by the Church to investigate the anomaly. He is accompanied by his platonic friend, Charlotte Aulin. Eager to establish themselves, the duo confronts the Castle's perils to discover if Dracula has truly revived alongside his fortress.

Charlotte is a bit of a busy body, habitually sticking her nose in others' affairs, and is never shy about flaunting her facts to others. Charlotte's calm and rational demeanor frequently keeps the hotheaded Jonathan in line, and provides answers to many quandaries that prove as obstacles to the duo. Charlotte becomes flustered when others refer to her as a mere child, despite being the more level headed of the two.

Her latest escapade with Jonathan sees them inspecting the rising of Castlevania. After being informed that a vampire named Brauner has seized control of the castle's power, Charlotte deduces that he has done so using magical paintings scattered across the castle. Her own magical abilities allow the two Hunters to enter the paintings in an attempt to dispel their power.
