Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles Inventory

Sub-Weapons
Fire Whip
Item Crash: If the sub-weapon slot is empty, item-crashing will cause the Vampire Killer to morph into a devastating fire-whip for one attack. While powerful, the player will usually find sub-weapons early-on in most stages, rendering the Fire Whip as a back-up weapon.
Dagger
At the price of 1 heart, Richter can throw three knives for a small amount of damage. While lacking in power, the dagger lightly taxes your heart supply, and is handy when you're in a pinch.
Item Crash: Richter can speedily throw dozens upon dozens of knives with the Thousand Daggers attack, shredding anything in their path. Use this against slow moving enemies or large groups of targets to peel away their health at a safe distance.
Axe
When used to greatest effect, the Axe can bring the fight to both airborne enemies and foes on the high ground. Traveling in a high but short-ranged arch, the Axe boasts modest damage and is arguably the most versatile of the sub-weapons.
Item Crash: Jumping into the air, Richter will be surrounded by a ring of Axes that will rapidly rotate off the screen. This is good to use when surrounded and taking heavy damage, as it promptly disintegrate enemy ranks.
Cross
Behaving roughly like a boomerang, the cross will steadily travel in a straight line before returning to Richter. Quick thinking players will realize that leaping over the boomerang on its return path makes it all the easier to clear out enemies sneaking behind Richter.
Item Crash: Tapping into the holy relic's power will spurn huge crucifixes to shoot up from below, smashing all in their path. Advancing foes wilt away in the face of the barrage.
Grimoire
A Holy Bible that rotates where it was used, gradually expanding until off-screen. Like the Axe, it is surprisingly effective against both airborne and ground-based enemies. It can serve as a brief shield from projectiles.
Item Crash: A group of books will appear, moving horizontally while rotating, tossing and bashing enemies around as if they were rag-dolls.
Holy Water
The blessed crystal clear water within the bottle looks innocent at first glance, but when unleashed it creates a blanket of flames that will incinerate all unholy-beings in its path. Holy Water is a blessing when facing armored foes that would otherwise deflect your attacks, as the volatile liquid deals hefty damage that they cannot avoid.
Item crash: The oft-quoted Hydro Storm is created by item crashing Holy Water. A torrential downpour of holy water will saturate all in its path, dishing out considerable damage to all servitors of evil unfortunate enough to be drenched by the water.
Stopwatch
The quaint Stopwatch may endow you with the knowledge of time, but this particular specimen literally commands it. When used, all enemies will have their moments greatly slowed down. Some beings are immune to this effect, though.
Item Crash: Creates a giant clock that both hampers the movements of enemies and damages them for every hour hand that it possesses. Not only will this item crash cripple otherwise deadly enemies for you to attack as you please, it will also assist with the damaging.
Key
Among the maze-like interior of Dracula's Castle lie many sealed doors and gateways that house the Count's secrets. Keys to bypass these seals are hidden in select candelabras scattered throughout the countless hallways and the Castle grounds.
Item Crash: You can throw a thousand knives with a lone dagger. You can summon a storm of Holy Water with but one vial. A single Bible is all it takes to create a mass of holy tomes to break the bodies of every foe in a room.
Yet you can only cause Richter confusion with the key.
Phoenix
Throws two feathered friends simultaneously, who will briefly take wing vertically to the left and right of Maria before returning. While weak, this can aggravate flying foes or bring the battle to fiends out of reach.
Item Crash: Creates a large Phoenix that will cover the screen with flames. When the going gets tough, use the Phoenix Item Crash to fry those spooks that just won't quit.
Turtle
Maria hides under the thick turtle shell for protection from all attacks, but hinders her movements.
Item Crash: Calls forth a huge turtle that will spin and smash all enemies caught in its path. Highly useful against those heavily armored sentinels.
Dragon
A powerful Dragon ally will quickly fly ahead of Maria, clearing away foes in her path.
Item Crash: For a pricey 50 hearts, a full grown Dragon will tear across the screen, shredding all that would harm Maria. Powerful, but drains your hearts and MP meter, so use this wisely.
Cat
Maria will summon a small white feline who will run and jump around for a small time before disappearing.
Item Crash: A large tiger will aid Maria, attacking all enemies on screen. This can also strike bosses no matter where they are on the screen.
Song Book
Maria will sweetly sing, causing notes of her lullaby to materialize. These enchanted musical notes will harm foul creatures that come in contact with them.
Item Crash: A large cloud of musical notes appears, briefly staying onscreen and damaging all that come in contact with them.
Egg
When thrown, the egg will shatter, revealing small birds that will immediately take flight straight up in the air. Enemies in their way will suffer damage from the seemingly harmless chicks.
Item Crash: A ring of birds surrounding a Phoenix will rush to Maria's defense, taking vengeance on monsters in its path.
Items
Small Heart
To utilize your sub-weapons, you must gather these small hearts that power them. Striking candelabras will commonly yield these.
Large Heart
Worth five Small Hearts, though not that uncommon.
Giant Heart
Bestows the player 50 hearts. Quite rare.
Small Food
The humble Wall Meat, tucked away in quite abnormal areas, serves to regenerate a modest amount of HP. For Maria, these will come in the form of pastries and desserts.
Large Food
For the battered Vampire Hunter with a massive appetite, hidden extra large portions of meat can restore much lost HP. Comes as a giant Birthday Cake for Maria.
Rosary
This sacred symbol protects those who touch it, eliminating all dark creatures onscreen in a blinding flash.
1Up
Rare item that grants the player an extra life.
Money
Scattered throughout the game are variously colored bags of currency. These not only boost your score, but can also purchase demos of the Boss Fights. Use these to find out which tricky maneuvers work best against that seemingly invincible boss.
Sound item
Contains a hidden track that the player can use at the Sound Assign.
