ichter is a 19 year-old Vampire Hunter with a steadfast sense of justice, and fierce determination. As a descendant of the Belmont Clan of Vampire Hunters, he has been trained as such and wields the generations old Vampire Killer whip. The very same holy weapon used by his forefathers to banish Count Dracula from the world of the living. Richter knows of Dracula's inevitable resurrection, and that it is his job to return The Count to the grave. Despite this heavy burden, Richter remains resolute, knowing the fate of the world depends upon him.
His emotions flair up when he learns that during a raid, his girlfriend, Annette, has been captured by Dracula's forces and taken to the Vampire's castle. Richter races toward Castlevania with more than one purpose – to destroy Count Dracula and rescue his lady love and other maidens that have been abducted.

Annette

The girlfriend of Richter Belmont. While Dracula's minions ravage the town of Aljiba, Annette is found by the Dark Priest Shaft and taken against her will, as a present to Lord Dracula along with other maidens. Annette has special interest to Dracula, as he is aware of her connection with the Belmonts, his mortal foes. Dracula uses Annette as a pawn to goad Richter into his traps, and perhaps cause the young Hunter to make impetuous moves and decisions.
Dracula's interest in Annette goes even further. The Count offers her immortality as a vampire, and the opportunity to rule beside him. She hopes that Richter will come and rescue her before the Count robs her of her humanity.

Maria Renard

Despite having lost both her parents in death, this 12 year-old remains bright, chipper, and pure. She has a simple but practical outlook on right and wrong. She attempted to defeat Dracula, but was captured. While analyzing her, the Dark Priest Shaft realized that she has latent abilities. Thinking such abilities would be of use, Shaft unlocks her true potential. Thenceforth, Maria is able to use magical skills.
She is rescued by Richter Belmont, who tells Maria to go home. Maria insists on going with Richter to aid him in his quest. Seeing that she will not take no for an answer, and that she has abilities of her own, Richter accepts the innocent girl's help.
She is a very distant relative of the Belmonts.

Iris

The bright and caring daughter of the village doctor. Iris knows how to heal wounds herself. This innocent has been captured and is held somewhere in the watery landscape surrounding Dracula's Castle.

Tera

Tera is a devout nun in the village church. She is warm hearted, lively, and passionate about her service. She was whisked away along with other girls to Dracula's Castle, where she prays for deliverance in a muddy hovel.

Shaft

Chaos has consumed this man's heart, and he will live and die to serve Dracula. He shuns the light of God and is adept at dark magic. With the blood of a maiden, he has brought his master back from the dead, believing that the world should be cleansed by Chaos, and that Dracula is the means to this.

Count Dracula

Once a servant of The Lord, he has grown to have extreme disdain for God and mankind, and is a savior to those who share his philosophy and bend to his will. It is foretold that the Dark Lord will return every 100 years, when the power of Christ weakens and the hearts of men turn black and seek chaos and destruction. Such has happened as the Dark Priest Shaft performed the unholy ritual to resurrect Dracula.
The Count has been defeated by the Belmont Clan in the past, but he grows stronger with each full resurrection. Richter's lover, Annette, is in Dracula's clutches, giving the Dark Lord a tactical advantage over his young foe.
Though unequaled in cruelty, he maintains a regal air of elegance and grandeur.
