Castlevania II: Simon's Quest Endings

here are three endings in Simon's Quest, all determined by how long it takes the player to beat the game.

Worst Ending

To get the worst ending, it must take the player over 16 days (of the game's time), or use several continues.
With the screen in black and white, the text simply states that the battle has ended and that the land and its people are free from Dracula's curse. Simon's name shall be passed into legend for his deeds.
Oddly enough, for a bad ending, this one isn't. . .that bad. In fact, it is not that different from the best, sans Simon's presence at Dracula's grave. It doesn't seem to imply Simon died, which is in stark contrast to the Okay Ending.

It's very strange, but the 'bad ending' is the most pleasant and resolved of the trio. Simon has dispelled the Curse, all is well in Transylvania, and the Count shows no sign of returning to the world of the living.

Okay Ending

To achieve this ending, you must complete the game within 8 to 15 days and use only a few continues.
Opening to a bright, sunny day with Simon before the grave of Dracula, you are told that Simon came out as the victor. Sadly, his wounds ultimately got the better of him. The ending predicts that someday, a new hero will come forward and ensure that peace lasts.

The 'so-so' ending is pretty depressing. Simon's admirable efforts are clouded over with his untimely death, and Transylvania's fate lies with the hope that another will take his place. You only averted the inevitable and couldn't even save the hero's life.

The okay ending is the most heartrending. Simon fought hard and lifted the Curse from the land, but could not lift it upon himself, and eventually succumbed to his wounds. In the end, the mortal foes, Simon and Dracula, bested each other, and both lie asleep in death.

Best Ending

You will view this ending should you beat the game in less than 8 game days with little or no continues.
The sun sets to Simon kneeling before the grave of his dire foe. The text states that your battle has finally ended, with Dracula banished and the peace restored. After this, the triumphant Simon walks away. In an ominous turn, night falls on Dracula's grave, and a single hand thrusts itself from the ground.
This ending is interesting due to the unexpected hint at a next game. For the effort you put in, it is well worth it.

The best ending seems like it would be 'the best', but Dracula's hand rises from the earth, leading us to believe that he is coming back to haunt the world yet again!
