Castlevania II: Simon's Quest Bosses

he bosses of Simon's Quest are a drastic departure from Castlevania's roster. While the first game boasted such foes like Frankenstein & Igor or Death, who are still famous for their steep challenge, Simon's Quest has but three that are quite pacified in their assaults. All can be destroyed in a variety of ways. Bear in mind that the bosses, with the exception of Dracula, will spawn again should you re-enter their room. If you have already acquired the items they drop, there is no added benefit to fight them again.

Death

Dwelling within Braham manor is the Grim Reaper himself, back and bristling for a rematch with our hapless hero. His pattern is simple; he will slowly drift toward the player while hurling a sickle.

One way to finish the fight is run through to the next room.
That's right! Since Death descends upon you from above, it is possible to trot past without a single strike. The catch is that the potent Golden Dagger will be withheld from you. Since the Golden Dagger is the most powerful sub-weapon, it is slightly inadvisable to adopt this tactic.

A solid method is to remain at the entrance of his room, wait for him to come close, and rapidly flog him into submission. If you have the Sacred Flame, even better! When you throw the burning pillars onto the ground when Death gets close enough, he will become immobilized, take damage, and be vulnerable to your attacks. Should he get too close for comfort, you can exit and re-enter the room. This, however, will restore his health. His slow moving scythes are quite easy to dodge or destroy, and as such, present no real problem.

Carmilla's Mask / Vampira

A mask of a Vampire Countess that weeps volatile tears of blood serves as guardian of the Magic Cross in Laruba's Mansion. Like Death before it, this boss has a simple pattern. The moment you enter the room, it will ascend to the center of the screen and fly in a circular motion. While doing this, it will begin to cry blood that spreads out as fireballs the moment it hits the ground.

The fireballs may sound like bad news, but with Dracula's Rib equipped, they can be blocked. There is no real strategy to defeat Carmilla's Mask: if the Rib is equipped, attack until the Mask falls. Using the Golden Knife is advisable, as it stuns and inflicts major damage to the violent veil. Its demise will reward the player with the Magic Cross - the key to Dracula's Castle.

Count Dracula

King of Vampires and the Lord of Darkness who seeks to wipe out humanity in his thirst for absolute power. It was Simon Belmont who slew him during the events of Castlevania. Alas, the Count's Curse has forced Simon to collect his remains and bring them to his lair for one final showdown.

Dracula is the final boss in the game. Burning his remains has revived him in a ghostly form. Dracula will materialize in front of the player before teleporting rapidly to the corners of the room. While doing this, he will summon large fire sickles toward the player, and every so often stop to send even more.
The best way to send the vampire back to oblivion is to whip him while he materializes. Use the Golden Dagger in conjunction with your current weapon to take him down before he can even move around the room.

If he is able to teleport before the player can finish him off, use the laurels to grant invincibility and whip him when he appears in front of Simon.
