Castlevania II: Simon's Quest

astlevania II: Simon's Quest is the sequel to the original Castlevania. It originally appeared on the Famicom Disk System in Japan under the title Dracula II: The Accursed Seal on August 28th, 1987. It was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in America on December 1st, 1988. Europe obtained a prolonged release on April 27th, 1990.

An interesting difference between the Japanese and American releases is that the music is done using different sound chips. Though the same songs are present in both, the sound is vastly dissimilar, and the compositions differ in small ways.

Even though Nintendo had a strict policy of outlawing religious imagery in video games, Simon's Quest remains untouched, showcasing various Crosses and including Holy Water. The curious thing is that Super Castlevania IV, which arrived 3 years later, was heavily censored for its American release.

Castlevania II is notable for breaking away from the usual Castlevania stage based set up of the time, by introducing a continuously flowing world and including various Role Playing Game elements.

It received a re-release on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console.
