Whips
The Vampire Killer is a Belmont's primary weapon. This whip is imbued with holy power and is especially effective against creatures that reject the light and love the darkness. It can be upgraded twice.
Leather Whip

This is Simon Belmont's default weapon and the weakest version of the whip. It has poor range and poor attack power.
Chain Whip

By gaining a Chain Whip power-up the Leather Whip will enhance to the Chain Whip. This has the length of the Leather Whip, but is much better at attack strength.
Morning Star Whip

This is the Vampire Killer at full strength gained by picking up two Chain Whips. It is just as strong as the previous whip and has substantially more length.
Sub-Weapons
Sub-Weapons are secondary weapons for Simon Belmont, which require hearts to use. They each have different effects and can be found in candles or dropped by enemies.
Dagger

This is a quick projectile that flies forward in a straight line. It is comparatively weak, but can be useful, especially with the aid of a Triple Shot.
Holy Water

This is hallowed water used by the god fearing. If Simon throws the vial containing the liquid to the ground and shatters it, the water will release and evoke a sacred flame to burn in one spot for a short time. This is useful for laying traps for enemies.
Axe

This labrys is good for hitting foes that are above you. Remember that when climbing towers. Simon will throw it in an arcing motion.
Stopwatch

For five hearts, you cease enemy movement on the screen for a few seconds. This can be a life saver in situations that get especially dicey.
Cross Boomerang

This powerful sub-weapon soars frontward covering a long range and then returns the way it came, like a boomerang. It is not as fast as the dagger, but is much stronger.
Herb

This little sprig can restore a considerable amount of health for the costly price of ten hearts. It is rare and pricey to use, but is also possibly the best sub-weapon in this adventure.
Power-Ups & Treasures
Chain Whip

This powers the Vampire Killer up to the next level. It can be collected twice.
Heart

This small affectionate item powers sub-weapons. It is commonly found in candles and enemies.
Big Heart

This is worth five Hearts. It can be found in candles, enemies, and sometimes within blocks.
Double Shot

This block is found in candles, enemies, and walls. It allows you to use sub-weapons twice consecutively.
Triple Shot

This is exactly like the Double Shot, but it allows you to use sub-weapons three times consecutively.
Pot Roast

This main course is well hidden in stages, so look diligently. It restores a great amount of health.
Invisibility Ointment

This precious balm allows Simon to become impervious to all enemy damage for a short amount of time.
Rosary

This holy artifact banishes all evil from the screen.
1-Up

These items are far and few between. They add an extra life to your stock. Oftentimes, you must do odd actions, like stand in a certain spot for a few seconds, to get them to appear.
Money Bags

Apparently, Simon has no problem stealing from the rich and infamous. These bags of loot are a common sight and they add bit by bit to your point total. Red bags are worth 100 points, blue bags are worth 400 points, and white bags are worth 700 points.
Hidden Treasures

These are hidden like the One-Ups. They come in the form of blinking money bags, crowns, and… Moai Heads? They greatly add to point total.
Crystal

This orb will appear when a boss is defeated. It will complete the stage, tally the time it took you to finish the stage and all remaining hearts you have into points, and refill your health.
