I've always liked Castlevania music but up until a year ago I've never bothered to understand what the music actually meant. I've never been a music buff, just played a bit guitar but nothing worth noting :P
For example there are themes such as "Lost Painting" and "Crystal Teardrops" (Which are awesome songs and I will hate you if you don't like them) which I can't seem to figure out
Of course there are obvious ones like Vampire Killer and Bloody Tears, but those are a bit overrated in my opinion.
Please discuss it with me ;)
My favourite color is punching things in the face.

I don't understand what you're trying to figure out.

I'd like to think music usually will add to the environment and sets the tone for people, places and things. If you want to use Lost Painting, it definitely makes sense for the Inverted Library and Caverns. Gives the feel of a fantastic and grand place. Like a Lost world that you're exploring with wondrous and beautiful architecture.

Think of Belmont's Theme from Lords of Shadow:

and Theme of Simon:

Belmont's Theme to me marks the evolution of Gabriel. The turning point of who he starts to become, as he sets off to face Carmilla. It has a hint of sadness like he's leaving behind a part of himself. Definitely, the Belmont's Theme depicts to me a Tragic Hero which is different from how I view the original Theme of Simon which has more of a sense of purpose and justice behind it.

Diplocephalus : Sorry, I haven't explained myself well ^^ I can't figure out why it is called "Lost Paintings". Is it just a translation error or does it actually have a hidden meaning?
Johnny : Yes, your description of Lost Paintings makes sense.. except for the Paintings part
Indeed, every Belmont's theme is related to the character's backstory. That's what makes those themes so unique :D

I don't think the title has a meaning that directly correlates to the game's story, or anything like that. The title is probably used to sort of help set an atmosphere for the song, which is dreamy, in a pleasant but mysterious way. It's actually pretty artful and clever. Likewise, Wandering Ghosts paints a mental image that works well with the song.

Actually, that makes sense..Indeed, when I listen to Wandering Ghosts I imagine a sort of dancefloor with ghosts and skeletons...Pretty clever.

The scenery of the Caves and Library is like a beautiful painting. Its like musical artwork along with the visual. It can all be left up to interpretation. :)

For its title alone, The Tragic Prince is more Alucard's theme to me than Dracula's Castle is.

Then theres Alucard's original theme from Castlevania 3, Nightmare:

Of course IMO it just wouldn't have felt right if Tragic Prince or Dracula's Castle played throughout these caves. This was a nice eerie theme. Though yes it doesn't exactly represent Alucard as a hero of any kind. Just an eerie building up of anticipation of Trevor meeting Alucard for the first time in a creepy cave. Most likely Alucard is probably passing through these same caves on his way to challenge his father and that pesky Trevor just had to get in his way.

I think most of the songs referring to the biggest plotpoints in the CV games have always stood out to me the most because they usually have the most fitting titles. Not to take away from any of the songs that play during gameplay, but two of the most unforgettable songs would be a couple of themes revolving around Dracula:

I was actually surprised the first time I learned that Soma was Dracula, and that the player would be responsible for Soma saving his own soul from being devoured by the darkness threatening to consume him and turn him into the Count, or upon failure you would see Soma as the manifestation of evil he lost the battle to, with Julius coming in to keep his promise to destroy him. It's one of the grandest moments in the series.

And here we have the creation of the original Dark Lord himself, all the way back at the beginning of the storyline that set in motion a series of battles that would last nearly 1,000 years (and 25 years of games for all kinds of different platforms). All of the frustrating static camera angles and boring level design choices were worth it to reach this tragic ending.

Clearly referring to how a very neat demon keeps his DVD collection in order.
